Writing experience

I have many experiences in writing. Most of them are in school. Like for social studies, we wrote five paragraph essays. For english, we wrote reports on topics or we created our own stories. I like to write my own stories because I can express myself freely. Most stories I write are about my life, what i've gone through or what i'm currently going through. When im writing i would like to improve on my voice and my word choices.

  3. Hi Rebekah,

Good goals for writing—voice and word choice work hand in hand, so focusing on one will usually automatically improve the other. It sounds as if you’ve had lots of practice with writing, and that’s good. The more you write (and read) the better will be your writing.

Here are my comments on your writing pre-assessment: The topic you’ve selected seems one that evokes a lot of emotion in you. What you need for the essay, however, is more specific detail. Right now, the essay goes from emotion to emotion but does not connect the emotion to specifics. Thus, the reader gets the idea that this is a very emotional experience for you but doesn’t really know why. Because of the lack of specifics, it’s difficult for the experience to “come alive” for the reader.

For your idea bank: Nicely done! You’ve got details about your feelings, but also details about the situation and the other people involved. These have good potential for other writing pieces.
